Welcome to the St Giles Association

The St. Giles Association, situated in Kensington, Johannesburg, offers accommodation and care to 50 disabled adults from 18 years and older. Our residents are disabled by accidents, strokes, congenital conditions and acquired degenerative illnesses.

Our mission is to uphold the dignity of disabled people by providing a caring, supportive and protected environment in which they can face the challenges of daily life and to facilitate the attainment of skills to help them achieve their potential.

We offer the following services to our residents:

Medical Care

Most of our residents have medical needs and for this reason St. Giles employs a full time and experienced Matron who manages a team of nursing staff and care workers.

Medical care is provided on a 24 hour basis.

The nurses and care workers also assist residents with activities of daily living like bathing, toiletry requirements, dressing, feeding and transferring from wheelchairs.

Residents are transported to Johannesburg General Hospital for routine medical examinations as well as medication.

Social and Emotional Support

Our Social Worker contributes to the social and emotional wellbeing of the residents by offering support and counseling services to residents and their families.

Another area of focus is to enhance the quality of life of residents by empowering them with coping and problem solving skills.

It is the role of the social worker to handle admission enquiries and coordinate the screening process for new admissions.

St. Giles is also actively involved in community outreach projects whereby we assist disabled people in the community by sharing professional expertise and facilities

Physiotherapy

Our Physiotherapy program is highly beneficial for the mobility of limbs and to maintain or improve muscle tone.

Our Hydropool is heated and a wonderful therapeutic resource.

Skills Development

The fine motor skills of residents are developed through a stimulation group and an Occupational program. Some residents are occupied in a protected workshop run by APD (Association for Physically Disabled).
